The 2013 Award of Achievement was presented to Dr. Hasan Abdulaziz Al Sanad, who for the past 30 years has directly influenced the civil engineering profession in Kuwait.

He is a distinguished academician researcher, technical advisor, consultant, author and a renowned expert in his field of specialization. He has carried out many special duties for his country, and has actively participated in various local and international professional organisations. Dr. Sanad has also served as a member and leader of numerous high level committees, and has always been actively involved in important community initiatives and charitable activities.

The Award of Achievement was bestowed upon Dr. Hasan Al Sanad for his lifetime contribution towards enhancing the civil engineering profession, education and practices in the State of Kuwait. Dr. Hasan Al Sanad was born on 19th October, 1953. His early schooling in Kuwait was made all the more memorable by his fame as a child-star, when between 1961-1963 he appeared thrice in a popular television programme of that time. In 1971 he was awarded a scholarship to the USA, and went to the University of Ohio to study Civil Engineering.

After graduating, he briefly worked with Kuwait Municipality before returning to the USA to join Ohio State University, where he completed his Masters in 1977. He then pursued doctoral research and in August 1982, he was awarded his doctorate by Ohio State University, specialising in Geotechnical Engineering.

Professional Career In 1982, Dr. Hasan Al Sanad joined Kuwait University as Assistant Professor, and after some years as an Associate Professor, in 1996 he became a Professor a position he still holds. His career with Kuwait University is characterised by progressively increasing responsibilities and impressive promotions.

Between 1999-2002, Dr. Hasan Sanad, as President of Kuwait Society of Engineers, presided over a period during which the society became more inclusive in its association with other professional institutes. During his lengthy professional career, Dr. Hasan has, as would be expected, initiated, promoted and participated in many academic activities and national committees. He also greatly influenced, expedited and guided the establishment and development of Kuwait University's new Sabah Al Salem University City at Shadadiya.

And he is particularly proud of initiating and formalising the design agreement for the new College of Engineering and Petroleum (COEP) which is currently under construction in this new campus.

Dr. Hasan Al Sanad is father to 3 girls and 3 boys. His son Abdullah is a Professor at Kuwait University's College of Life Sciences, teaching Environmental Engineering.
