In order to improve collaboration between different ACI chapters and between individual chapters and the ACI International, the ACI arranges international roundtable meetings on regular basis.
international roundtable was held in Ritz Carlton hotel in Doha, Qatar on November 3-4, 2010. The meeting was attended by representatives from China, Egypt, Hellas (Greece), India, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and UAE.
From ACI International, the meeting was attended by Luke Snell (the chair of the international committee) and chaired by John Conn the ACI manger for certifications programs and chapters. The Kuwait chapter was represented by Dr. Moetaz El-Hawary, the president of ACI- Kuwait chapter.
The meeting was started by a welcome note from the chair, followed by an overview, where chapters representatives gave an overview of their chapters including the age of the chapter, size, reserves, activities, newsletters, award programs, directories, libraries and issues of importance to be discussed. The representatives then discussed ways to increase membership through increasing benefits provided to members. Importance of certifications and ways to promote and encourage certifications were discussed.
It was suggested, by Kuwait chapter, to change the title of the Grade 1 program from Field Testing Technician to Field Testing Engineer as the course is geared toward engineers. Mr. Conn promised to discuss this issue with the certification committee. Issues such as students membership and working with other engineering and concrete organizations were also discussed. A whole session was devoted to improving chapters relationships and finding ways that the chapters can cooperate on programs of mutual interests.
