ACI - Kuwait Chapter Technical Activities 2018

A number of technical activities were carried out during 2018. These included participation in exhibitions; certification and training courses; seminars and project presentations. ACI-KC also hosted the then President of American Concrete Institute (ACI) when he visited Kuwait as part of his international tour to the region.

Seminars and Conferences A technical seminar entitled ‘Structural Condition Assessment and Restoration of Existing Buildings (A Case Study)’, was presented by Dr. Yasser Galal Eldin Fahmy on 18th February, 2018. The Chapter was part sponsor for a technical conference entitled ‘4th ASTM Cement Conference and Workshop’, which was held on 8th/9th May, 2018 at the Regency Hotel, Kuwait. Mr. Deepak Kanitkar, MRSC, conducted a seminar entitled ‘Organic Based Corrosion Inhibitors for Concrete – Chemistry, Advantages and Challenges’. The seminar was conducted on 23rd December, 2018 at Gulf Consult’s Offices and focused on the benefits and challenges of using corrosion inhibitors to improve durability of structures in Kuwait.

Certification Courses During October 2018, an ACI Certification course was conducted in collaboration with ACTS. The course was entitled “Concrete Field Testing Grade 1”. The programme comprised one day of training and a day for actual testing. ACI-KC members were granted a discount of 10%, and eight engineers successfully obtained their certification.

Consultants’ Projects Last year ACI-KC initiated a seminar-cum-presentation programme whereby local consulting offices are invited to present any one of their significant or landmark projects. The second presentation in this series was made by KEO at their offices on 4th April, 2018. The subject was Structural Design of Burj Al Shaya and presentations were made by Mr. Mohamed Ismail, Mr. Nael Akhras and Mr. Dolan Gosh.
